New flexible Packaging Facility Opens in Manchester, England
A new DuPont Liquid Packaging Systems manufacturing facility began operations in Wythenshawe, Manchester England, January 2008. The plant produces premade bags for bag-in-box applications serving our growing customers base in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and also beyond EMEA for more specialized flexible packaging offerings.
“The move to Wythenshawe gave the business an opportunity to look at the entire bag manufacturing process. Working with lean consultants the facility was designed with a “lean manufacturing” layout, streamlining the manufacturing methods to maximize value and minimize waste in the value add process” said Susanne Burgdorf, Site Manager. “We streamlined the entire bag making process from the point where the resin arrives at the plant through to the finished product on the dock.”
DuPont Liquid Packaging Systems, also known as LB Europe, previously operated between two facilities. Now all of the 120 employees operate under one roof in the Wythenshawe facility. This consolidation has reduced cost while maximizing the efficiency of the organization, manufacturing, inventory management, and space utilization. The final phase of the move is scheduled at the end of March when the Injection Molding equipment will be moved into the facility.
“Wine and beverage liquid packaging systems are our key markets within the European region but as we intensify our marketing efforts we anticipate growth in both the food and dairy markets that will contribute to sustainable growth of the liquid packaging business” said Stewart Graves, Global Marketing and Sales Director. “The new Wythenshawe facility enables us to supply our existing customers effectively while positioning the business to meet the growing demands in the EMEA market.”
