DuPont Liquid Packaging Systems have developed a complete line of packaging and filling technologies for applications ranging from low viscosity liquids, such as water and milk, to higher viscosity pumpable foods such as tomato paste and fruit purees. Package sizes range from 3 oz single serving size, to 370 gallon packages for extended shelf life and aseptic bulk storage applications.

Our technologies include filling machines for preformed bags of all sizes including the proprietary StarAsept™ and the DA8000 system and a range of Vertical, Form, Fill, Seal (VFFS) machines for pouch packaging. Our materials and packaging development capabilities combined with our VFFS and bag filler technology results in a comprehensive system offering. Full applications development support is provided from our Research and Development Facility .

Our filling technologies have various capabilities, depending on the package and product shelf life requirements. Our extended shelf life and aseptic machines are designed with steam and chemical sterilizers to ensure a completely safe environment for filling. Fully automated cleaning and sterilizing cycles have been engineered to meet all food safety and regulatory requirements while optimizing filling efficiencies. We work with our customers and Process Authorities to generate the required data and file the applications with the FDA. We offer in-house capability to do microbial challenge testing that allows us to ensure the development of safe and efficient filling technology.

A key component of a flexible packaging system is the formation of a strong and durable seal. All applications are unique in the type of product being packaged, the size of the package, the film being used and the throughput. We employ high-speed data acquisition tools to measure the temperature, pressure and timing of the sealing process. We have developed finite element models of the sealing process to assist our understanding over a range of possible process conditions. This information is used to define an optimum sealing technology and process for each application.
