DuPont Coating & Release Systems Introduces New Low Molecular Weight PTFE
DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise today introduced DryFilm RA and LXE dispersions, featuring a unique PTFE base that further improves the lubricity, thermal and chemical stability, nonflammability, and antistick properties of DuPont™ DryFilm dispersions. DryFilm dispersions are incorporated into a broad range of products from gaskets and seals to bicycle chains, razor blades to marine paints, and roller coatings to mold releases. Unlike most silicon coatings, DuPont™ DryFilm dispersions are non-migrating, staying where they are applied rather than spreading into surrounding areas.
The fluorinated active ingredient, an ultra low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene, is responsible for their unique properties. "DryFilm dispersions are appropriate for dry film lubrication, release agents, and as an additive," said Mark Gullo, sales manager, DuPont Coating And Release Systems. "When applied to a variety of surfaces, the coating exhibits outstanding lubricity (low coefficient of friction) and antistick or release properties." DryFilm dispersions are able to function under a wide variety of environmental conditions ranging from cryogenic temperatures to 260°C (500°F) or higher. These characteristics allow formulation of products that are stable, highly effective, and easy to use. The DryFilm range of products meets most application needs since they can be applied alone or as part of other formulations. This range uses most conventional application methods, including fusing. DryFilm dispersions are available as concentrates and in specially formulated grades for particular applications including:
-
Dry Lubricant: electric switches, window hardware, military equipment, and any range of other applications for which smooth, repeated movement is essential. The low coefficient of friction characteristic of DryFilm dispersions translates to superior effectiveness.
-
Release Agents: DryFilm dispersions are also used extensively as release agents in processes involving the molding of rubber and plastic parts. Transfer of DryFilm dispersions to molded parts is negligible allowing smooth transition to post-finishing operationss.
-
Additives: DuPont™ DryFilm dispersions can be added to liquid and semisolid formulations to enhance lubricity, promote thickening, and retard fouling. DryFilm dispersions can be infused into electroless nickel-coated components, and incorporated into paints, inks, waxes and polishes.
