TraSys® Semi-Permanent Release Coatings Application Instructions

Rubber Mold Releases Recommended Procedure

Mold Preparation

  1. Clean mold thoroughly using glass or plastic bead media or high pH detergent to remove all prior mold release and other sources of contamination.
  2. Apply pressurized dry filtered air to the mold's surface to remove residual particles.
  3. Wipe down mold with solvent using a clean rag. A recommended alternative is to spray the bead-blasted mold with solvent and blow dry with filtered air.

Spray Application

  1. DuPont Coating & Release Systems TraSys® can be applied with a pressure-fed tank sprayer such as those manufactured by Binks or Devilbiss.
  2. Gun pressure should be regulated to a maximum of 25 psi, and pot pressure kept to the minimum pressure necessary for application, 5 psi or less.
  3. Mold should be brought up to operating temperature of 132-232°C (270-450°F). Apply 2-4 coats of DuPont Coating & Release Systems release to the mold surface by spraying in opposing directions. Allow 5 seconds between coats for water carrier to evaporate. After all coats have been applied, allow 5 minutes for final cure.
  4. Reapply DuPont Coating & Release Systems release as required (typically once or twice per shift), again allowing it to cure for 3-5 minutes.

Many companies attempt to schedule touch-up applications prior to shift change or before break periods, allowing DuPont Coating & Release Systems release to bake without losing productivity from the mold. Application of touch-up coat protects the original base coat and thus reduces mold fouling. Touch-ups are highly recommended for rubber-to-metal bonding operations and molded compounds that employ peroxide cure systems.
