The White Oaks Secondary School team, sponsored by DuPont, performed well at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Competition held at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga from March 30 to April 1. Out of 78 teams, mostly from the Greater Toronto Area but also from Québec, the USA and the UK, the White Oaks entry finished the preliminary round in 17th place with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses. They lost in the quarterfinals when their robot suffered a battery malfunction.

This was a first class event and served as a great inspiration for the students involved to pursue science and technology in their futures. The other secondary school sponsored by DuPont was Woburn Collegiate, the founding school for FIRST in Canada.
