Nina Mankovitz Featured at Climate Change Speaker Series
On Wednesday April 19th, members of the public gathered at Portsmouth Harbour in Kingston to hear Nina Mankovitz, Security, Safety, Health and Environment Manager for DuPont Canada, deliver a speech titled: "Putting Science to Work: DuPont’s Approach to Climate Change". Nina was the feature speaker for the evening, organized as part of a Climate Change Speaker Series by the City of Kingston and a number of community environmental groups.
In her speech, Ms. Mankovitz noted the many environmental achievements of DuPont ranging from our global leadership role in the phasing out of CFCs to reductions specific to DuPont Canada, such as the installation of leading-edge emissions reduction technology at our Maitland Site in 1997, and in 1999 when DuPont Canada sold 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emission reduction credits to Ontario Power Generation. The speech, which gave a comprehensive historical account, was also forward looking, citing our commitment to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gases globally by 2010 and the formation of our new Biofuels business unit.
Also on hand from DuPont were Nicolas Cudré-Mauroux, Director of Research, Engineering and Business Development and Roger Goodman, Public and Government Affairs Manager. During the question-and-answer period, Mr. Cudré-Mauroux discussed the significant work being done at DuPont Canada’s Research, Development and Engineering facility in Kingston, such as the new facility to produce engineered elastomer with Kevlar® pulp.
