Former Canadian Prime Minister Praises DuPont
Brian Mulroney, the Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993, singled out DuPont as one of two businesses that have made a positive contribution to the issue of global warming. Mr. Mulroney made his comments during a speech in Ottawa on April 22 as he accepted an award as Canada's "Greenest Prime Minister."
He said that: "DuPont responded to the challenge (of chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs) by creating innovative technologies that have only made the company more profitable, as well as a world leader in environmental responsibility." The audience listening to Mr. Mulroney's remarks included Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the U.S. ambassador to Canada. The speech was broadcast live on the CBC-TV Newsworld channel, and was covered extensively in Canadian print and broadcast media outlets.
The Greenest Prime Minister award was organized by the Corporate Knights Inc., an independent Canadian-based media company that publishes the world's largest circulation magazine focusing on corporate responsibility.
