Thanks to Quick First Responders At Whitby - Tragedy Averted
Thanks to the quick response of the Liqui-Box Canada Medical Centre and First Aiders, a tragedy was averted on Whitby Site.
On January 17, 2007, a contractor collapsed on the floor of the plant and lost vital signs. Georgia Pollard, Site Nurse; Dr. Bruce McGoveran, Site Physician and Phil Green, First Aider, immediately attended to the scene and using a combination of CPR, breathing assistance and a defibrillator, they were able to resuscitate the contractor. Whitby EMS attended to the scene and took the contractor to the local hospital for care. The contractor has since been discharged home from the hospital. This incident represented an emotional experience for employees of Whitby Site. It highlighted that the Safe Person Concept and associated behaviours (i.e. brother’s / sister’s keeper) are alive and well at Whitby Site.
