Pandemic Planning – Our Progress

A DuPont Canada Pandemic Planning team is continuing to shape plans that are designed to help us deal with a possible pandemic in a way that reflects our core values and enables us to maintain business continuity to the greatest extent possible. Currently the biggest threat appears to be the H5N1 avian flu virus which is attacking bird populations across Asia, Middle East, and Africa, and has resulted in about 300 human cases since 2003. The team has been in operation since November 2005, has representation from across our organization, and has aligned its work with our Crisis Management System and the Global Pandemic Planning Team. Team members have also worked with external organizations, such as local public health officials and the Canadian Government's Pandemic Private Sector Working Group. Each of the areas represented on the team has developed an initial plan. These plans address possible eventualities and how we will deal with them before, during and after a pandemic. Similar pandemic planning teams are operating in other regions. The plans are guided by a common set of principles that reflect our core values, and they are also following a common global template. July 1 is the deadline for completion of the plans. DuPont ™ Biosecurity kits are a component of the plan and are on order for Canadian employees. The decision to distribute the kits will be made by the Medical group based on the threat level, as determined by the World Health Organization.
