Growers to benefit from customized weed control to match field size and weed spectrum
MISSISSAUGA, ON – January 12, 2009 – Opening-day visitors to the Crop Production Show in Saskatoon got their first glimpse of a new herbicide delivery system that will greatly improve farmers’ weed control options.
This innovation, the DuPont™ PrecisionPac™ herbicide system, will enable Western Canadian retailers to provide growers with customized herbicide blends to meet the weed control needs of individual fields. “Growers will now be able to get the right herbicide in the right package size for their fields and sprayers,” says Scott Hollick, account manager, special projects for DuPont Canada.
Western Canadian growers will be the first to receive access to the customized weed control options available through the DuPont™ PrecisionPac™ herbicide system and Saskatoon will be the biggest stop yet in the Canadian launch.
“Growers in the province, who are some of the most advanced producers in the world, told us that they wanted weed control options that could be customized by the weed spectrum of their various fields,” says Hollick. “We developed the customized PrecisionPac™ herbicide system specifically for Western Canadian growers.”
The system dispenses dry herbicides into a small bag which is then labeled with the name of the grower, the field size and field identification. The system holds up to six active ingredients that can be combined in various ratios to help meet a grower’s agronomic requirements and tackle specific weed problems. It then dispenses precisely the right amount of product to apply to a particular field or tank size. That means no leftover herbicide or part-loads and no more measuring or guesswork.
The system debuted at Agri-Trade in Red Deer, AB, where it was awarded the 2008 Ag Innovations award for its show-stopping capabilities.
“It’s not often that a tradeshow booth draws a crowd but this is a big innovation and producers stopped to watch the demonstration of blends being dispensed,” says Hollick. “We’re excited to offer growers the ability to customize weed control to meet their exact needs. This system will provide them with exceptional convenience and flexibility to target their weeds on a field-by-field basis.”
DuPont plans to have close to 100 PrecisionPac™ systems in operation at retail locations across Western Canada in spring 2009 and will continue expanding availability of these systems over the next several years.
