JOHOR Baru, - A fertiliser dealer in Kluang has become the first Malaysian to win the Environment Respect Award by the DuPont Crop Protection and CropLife magazine.
Lim Mien Chuan was also named with three other country champions from India, Indonesia and Chins as ambassadors for good agricultural safety anmd stewardship.
Lim, a director of Lim Hong Ngee Sdn Bhd, was flown to the United States and honoured alongside American Environmental Respect Award winners at a special ceremony in Washingtonn on July 22.
Retailers and distributors from across the Asia Pacific competed for the award based on a self-audit of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s Code and Conduct.
Lim 35, who was nominated by DuPont Malaysia , was asked to document his practices and comment on the safe use of crop protection products.
Entrants were selected via teleconferencing by a panel the included representatives from CropLife and duPont.
Agriculture Department deputy dir4ector general (II) Datuk Sofian Mohd Salleh, in a commendation letter, said Lim deserved the accolade for demonstrating a responsible attitude towards safety and environmental protection.
Lim had recently moved his business premises from a highly populated area to an industrial zone to comply with occupational safety standards.
He also only deals with genuine agrochemical products that do not contain impurities that may be harmful to users and customers.
