PETALING JAYA: A small family-owned business in Johor is one of the four first recipients of the International Environmental Respect Awards.
Lim Hong Ngee Sdn BHd of Kluang was one of the four companies in the Asia-Pacific to bag the award after completing the “World of Respect” Self-Audit, based on the Food and Agriculture Orgasnisation’s code of conduct.
The company manufacturers agrochemical products like insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, seed, bag fertilisers and offers consulting services to its clients.
The other three winners were Shaanxi Kangtai Agricultural Means of Production Company (AMPC) of China, PT Poly Argomandiri of Indonesia and Akshara Agro Vet Agencies of India.
In an interview published in the June issue of Farm Chemicals International Lim Mien Chuan cites consumer safety and concern for the environment as the main reasons for practicing environmental stewardship.
“As consumers in general become more aware of the importance of a clean environment, they will also demand goods and services from responsible businesses that care about environmental safety,”
The company moved from its former premises in a highly populated area to an industrial area in Kluang to reduce the risk of pollution exposure, and as part of its stewardship programme.
Lim Hong Ngee also introduced an “Ally Bottle Recycling” programme and ensures that only genuine products that do not contain impurities – which may compromise consumer health – are produced.
The company also designed protective covers for harvesting tools used by plantation workers.
DuPont Crop Protection general manage Jim Collins said the winners went beyond the call of duty to make their communities a safer and healthier place.
