Pioneer Participates in Asia's Largest Biofuels Conference

Philippines, January 13, 2006

Going Where the Growth Is

Pioneer Hi-Bred Philippines (PHPI) recently participated in Asia's largest gathering of current and future ethanol producers and investors in Manila.

More than 200 delegates from Europe, the United States, and different countries in Asia including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines attended the event. The active involvement of Pioneer in supporting ethanol efforts is aligned with DuPont’s goal of becoming a sustainable company by increasing the use of renewable resources, thereby reducing its environmental footprint.

Dr. Sammy Dalmacio, registration & regulatory science consultant, PHPI, presented the paper “Selection and Optimization of Corn Hybrids for Fuel Ethanol Production,” written by senior research scientist Douglas Haefele.

The presentation was intended to increase interest in corn as a primary feedstock in ethanol production by helping participants understand how advanced hybrid corn technology can improve ethanol yield.

"As demand for biofuels improves, the availability of reliable and sustainable sources will become increasingly important. Corn, being one of the best sources of ethanol, will be in high demand. This could consequently trigger an expansion of the hybrid areas in the major corn locations," said PHPI Country Manager Jet Parma.
