DuPont Tyvek® presents science-based solutions for a house of future

On the 24 th -26th of  October 2007 the XXIV conference "Moscow – energy efficient city" was held in the building of Moscow town council. In the framework of the conference program DuPont get the conference participants acquainted with Tyvek® applications for hydroisolation and vapor control layer. In the section "Non-load bearing constructions. Energy-efficient thermal protection of buildings" Alexey Spitsyn, DuPont Tyvek® technical representative for Russia and CIS countries, presented the report  «Technical and economical grounds of wind protection application for the ventilated facades (on the basis of the US and Canada application experience)».

Minimizing the environment impact of the thermal energy and maximizing the energy effectiveness of buildings and constructions represent one of the main tasks the construction industry is facing nowadays. Not many of us are aware of the fact that the present-day buildings consume excessively the thermal energy, up to 40% of the overall consumed energy is spent for their heating and conditioning. The buildings in which the Russian citizens live and work lose unacceptably big amount of the heat: losses due to the ineffectiveness of walls and windows attain 55%. The application of DuPont science-based solutions gives an opportunity to the Russian construction industry enterprises to resolve the current problems in a more efficient way.

Presenting his report, Alexey Spitsyn told that the results of the tests run by independent scientific institutes upon the request of DuPont company confirmed the fact that the energy-effective façade system should include the thermal isolation as well as the wind-protecting membrane such as Tyvek®. It was stipulated that the application of the wind insulation permits to considerably reduce the expenses for heating and thus to increase the energy efficiency of the building.
