DuPont approves massive localization of automotive coatings in Russia

On May 17th, 2008 in Wuppertal DuPont approved the start of production of semi-finished DEKATOL 138 and DEKATOL 142 coatings in Russia according to DuPont technology, which was implemented at the plant of Russian Coatings.
The semi-finished coatings will be used to produce basecoats and polyester primers, which will be applied for coating of passenger cars and commercial vehicles manufactured in Russia and CIS countries. The supply of the coatings shall be handled through DuPont Russian Coatings LLC.
Additionally, the tests of MLP-70B resin (МЛП-70Б) are finished in Wuppertal. This resin was developed and produced by Russian Coatings for production of automotive base coats and finishes. The conclusions were positive. Upon environmental REACH requirements approval MLP resin produced with Russian Coatings technology may become an alternative for one of the resins purchased by DuPont from third parties.
The DuPont-Russian Coatings joint venture is the largest supplier of automotive coatings to the paint lines of automotive plants. The joint venture delivers localized materials from Russian Coatings production sites, as well as automotive coatings from other DuPont production sites directly to consumers. For example, since the end of 2007 the joint venture has supplied cathode electro coats for primers to Toyota plant near Saint-Petersburg. The joint venture is a major supplier to the Russian automotive manufacturers, including: AvtoVAZ, KAMAZ, MAZ, SeverstalAvto automotive plants, GAZ group of companies etc.
