“DuPont Science and Technologies” LLC has been cooperating with KAMAZ for several years. In particular, the company has sponsored Kamaz MASTER in Lisbon-Dakar Rally 2007 since 2006 and is now supporting the team in the Transorietale 2008 Rally Raid-Marathon.
This year the rally will also become the major point uniting the interests of the two majors – KAMAZ and DuPont – a global science company providing leading innovative solutions for the automotive industry. Especially for Transorietale 2008 Rally all the Kamaz MASTER cars taking part in the rally have been painted with DuPont paints.
DuPont has a strategic partnership with motorsport teams. Besides Kamaz MASTER sponsorship DuPont is an official supplier of the BMW Sauber Formula 1 team and a sponsor of the four-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon. Major automakers consider DuPont to be a partner of choice because such rallies are a kind of a hi-tech laboratory and the accelerator of development of new technologies and materials for the major automotive companies. New leading technologies in technical sports leads teams to better results. At the same time the partnership in the framework of the motorsport has provided DuPont with further long-term cooperation with automotive manufacturers.
Experts estimate that Russia’s automotive market has a capacity of $100 billion, with an annual growth of 20%, with local production output growth of 6% to 7% annually. The automotive industry accounts for approximately 10% of the country’s GDP, employing over 1 million people, and up to 7 million people with related industries included. For example, the Russian market of passenger vehicles should reach 3mln level already this year, becoming the largest market in Europe. All leading international car manufacturers are building or planning to build OEM plants to satisfy the sustainable growths of demand for news cars in Russia. These plants will produce approximately 1.5mln cars a year by 2010-2012. Even then the cars per capita ratio in Russia will half of that of Germany. This is why the OEM parts production will also grow dynamically within the next 5 years. Particularly passenger OEM coatings market is estimated to  reach $250 mln (about 40 thousand tones) in 2008 and grow further. The refinish market rate of growth is even higher, estimated at 20-25% a year.
Along with the growing demand for automobiles, consumers have increasingly higher expectations of equipment quality. It expands the need to use DuPont innovative materials and technologies which enhance vehicle performance characteristics such as reliability, safety, serviceability, ergonomics, and design.
DuPont is ready to accept the habitual role of a technology leader in the automotive industry in the Russian market as well. Notable among solutions developed by DuPont for the Russian automotive industry are an air-intake manifold for AvtoVAZ, a cylinder block cover for ZMZ/GAZ and AvtoVAZ, and soundproofing materials for AvtoVAZ. All of these components were custom-developed for domestically produced cars, in compliance with applicable requirements.
