With the Atlantic hurricane season underway, the Sabine River Works site in Texas is taking steps to help the community prepare. The site recently awarded $40,000 in hurricane preparedness grants to five local community groups. The grants are intended to support ongoing preparedness efforts and replenish supplies and equipment expended during the response to Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The organizations receiving awards are the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Bridge City Volunteer Fire Department, Bridge City Police Department, West Orange Volunteer Fire Department and West Orange Police Department.
“These five organizations, in particular, provided tremendous support to the community and DuPont employees and their families following Hurricane Ike last year,” said Mike Sanchez, site manager, Sabine. “If these grants can help prepare the community to respond to future storms, then the return on this investment will be incredible.”
