BAX® System Included in Emergency Response Program

Bax® System
Speed, accuracy and ease of use make the BAX® system a powerful part of quality control processes in the food industry.
The BAX® system from DuPont Qualicon has been included in the newly launched Emergency Response Validation program of the AOAC Research Institute, a subsidiary of AOAC International.

The new program is designed to respond immediately to emerging food contamination crises, such as the recent U.S. outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter products, by evaluating rapid detection methods as trustworthy tools for investigators, food regulators and the industry.

The BAX® system polymerase chain reaction assay for salmonella detection was certified by the AOAC Research Institute in 2002 as effective in many food types, including peanut butter. The new program evaluates a set of previously certified methods to determine their ability to detect the specific contaminant and food type associated with the emerging outbreak.

"The use of fast, accurate detection tools early in the process should help significantly with investigating and containing outbreaks of foodborne illness," said George Tice, R&D director, DuPont Qualicon. "We're very pleased to participate in such an important food safety initiative."
