DuPont Qualicon recently met with officials from the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee in South Africa to discuss food safety monitoring for the 2010 World Cup and related events. DuPont is a registered supplier for the 2010 World Cup.
The soccer (football) matches will be held in eight different provinces, each with their own health department implementing a national food safety control strategy. The BAX® system is being considered as the testing method of choice because its speed and data-sharing capabilities would optimize response time for any incidences related to food borne pathogens.
"We need to prevent illness related to food poisoning by putting robust quality measures in place," said Dr. Victor Ramathesele, chief medical officer, FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee. "We are intrigued by the BAX® system and will be observing its application for food safety at similar sporting events in Beijing and London."
