Research Milestones Achieved for DuPont Weed Control Products

DuPont has applied for U.S. EPA registration for four new weed control products for use by land managers to help improve the safety of utilities, roadside rights of way and other industrial sites.
Last week, DuPont applied for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration for four new weed control products for use within the land management market:
  • DuPont™ Plainview™ herbicide will provide broad-spectrum, bare-ground weed control to improve the safety of utility and industrial sites and other critical areas by eliminating vegetation that can interfere with equipment and become fire hazards.
  • DuPont™ Streamline™ herbicide will help land managers improve safety by controlling key brush and broadleaf weeds while restoring desired perennials and native grasses.
  • DuPont™ Viewpoint™ herbicide will control encroaching brush species to help utility site managers and public roadside managers maintain safe environments.
  • DuPont™ Perspective™ herbicide will help restore natural grasses and control encroaching weed species to improve public roadside safety.

“We look forward to providing these new tools to land managers looking for innovative ways to solve tough weed control issues,” said Jim Collins, vice president and general manger – Crop Protection.  “These new products are another example of the great innovations emerging from the DuPont Crop Protection R&D pipeline.”

Submitting the regulatory package for the herbicides – all based on a new active ingredient known as aminocyclopyrachlor – is a key research milestone.  The new herbicides are expected to launch in the second half of 2010.

“These groundbreaking products demonstrate how we are answering customer needs with science-based innovation," said Julia Wheeler, director of research and development, Crop Protection.  "We expect these herbicides – along with other new herbicides, insect control products and fungicides in the research pipeline – will deliver about $1 billion in new revenue by 2015.”
