DuPont China has completed a community volunteer program, “DuPont Science Lecture” series, in Dongying City. With an area of about 8,000 km² and a population of 1.8 million, Dongying City is located in the coastal regions of eastern China.
Beginning in May, 20 DuPont volunteer scientists and technicians from the DuPont China R&D Center delivered lectures to children in primary and high schools to help students appreciate the magic of science through interactive presentations and demonstrations. Lecture topics included “Colorful Chemistry,” “Material & Safety,” “Solar Energy Becomes ‘Green’ Energy” and “Omnipotent Corns.”
The series aims to raise the interest of students in science, encourage imagination and increase problem-solving abilities. Dongying Science & Technology Association provides full support of the lecture series because of the interactive approach to teaching science.
“We are enthusiastic about demonstrating how wonderful the world of science is, and encouraging the continuous pursuit of science among students,” said Shang Xiuyong, technology manager of biology materials, China R&D Center.
