DuPont Qualicon participated in a recent international seminar held in Puerto Montt, Chile, on the control of specific pathogens in the food industry. Organized by Biovac Laboratory and the Chilean Austral University, the event drew entrepreneurs, scientists and students. The event aimed to raise awareness of current diagnostic and control techniques for two of the most virulent foodborne pathogens –
Listeria monocytogenes and
Vibrio parahaemolyticus – and also introduce new technologies.
Daniel DeMarco, senior research microbiologist at DuPont Qualicon, presented the PCR-based BAX® system method for detecting bacteria and monitoring food to representatives of the salmon, dairy and meat industries.
"We are very concerned about outbreaks of foodborne illness, not just in Chile but around the world," Daniel said. "That is why we continuously develop new tests for emerging pathogens and improvements for existing assays. DuPont Qualicon is committed to providing the food industry with the best technology for the highest standards of quality control.”
Foreign and nationally recognized experts from the public and private sectors, including the Chilean Institute of Public Health, the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology, Biovac Laboratory, and the Chilean Austral University, participated in this seminar.
