Sujata Bhatia, research associate, DuPont Central Research & Development (CR&D), was honored recently by the Delaware Chapter of Girls Inc. with their Strong, Smart, and Bold award. The mission of Girls Inc. is to inspire girls to develop into responsible adults, resisting stereotypes and preparing for economic independence.
Sujata, who holds both a Ph.D. and an M.D., currently works in the DuPont Intellectual Assets organization. She has been active with the Delaware Commission for Women and the University of Delaware Women in Engineering mentoring program. The Girls Inc. award recognizes Sujata as a role model for her scientific accomplishments and her leadership in community work.
“Sujata’s belief that she could achieve anything and her drive to make bold choices are perfectly aligned with the objectives of our organization,” said Brenda Algar, executive director, Girls Inc. “It is so important for girls today to meet and talk with women who are leaders in their fields in science and math.”
“I derive so much inspiration from my work with young women,” Sujata said. “I love conveying my excitement for biomedical research to girls and women, and I believe it’s essential to give back to the community. It makes my career more meaningful.”
Sujata added, “My advice to all women is to believe in yourself, pursue your passion, remember to help others, and face your challenges boldly and fearlessly.”
