DuPont Yerkes employees and their families lined up at the Yerkes site in Buffalo, N.Y., earlier this month to have their pictures taken with Pat LaFontaine, a hockey “Hall of Famer” and with the (U.S.) National Hockey League Stanley Cup.

“This has got to be the coolest thing the plant has ever done,” said Tom Armusewicz, a Tedlar® special product technology guardian at the site.

LaFontaine visited the Yerkes site to thank employees for the generous donation of DuPont™ Corian® on behalf of the company. The Yerkes site donates colorful Corian® panels to brighten up hospital playrooms for cancer patients.

In 1997, LaFontaine founded the Companions in Courage Foundation to raise funds to build interactive playrooms called “Lion’s Dens” in hospitals throughout North America. Through innovative communications tools, the playrooms replace the isolation of a hospital with a connection to family, friends and celebrities.

“Our partnership with DuPont is perfect for the Lion’s Den,” LaFontaine said.  “The shine, colors, and non-porous characteristics of Corian® are so important when trying to prevent the spread of infection.  I am glad to have this chance to thank DuPont and the Yerkes plant employees.  It is great to work with a company and with employees who understand they can use their resources to make people’s lives better.”

DuPont Yerkes employees also have been involved with installing Corian® at the Roswell Cancer Institute’s Lion’s Den in Buffalo, N.Y.  During 2009, more Lion's Den rooms will be opening in locations throughout the U.S.
