DuPont Updates Investors on Applied Biosciences

The #24 car leads DuPont investors to see the Applied BioSciences exhibits as part of yesterday’s Investor's Day at the Experimental Station. The car and the DuPont shuttle were running on a 20 percent blend of biobutanol. The shuttle also contained a Bio-PDO anti-freeze. Both vehicles ran without need for vehicle modification.

Calling it “one of the most significant growth opportunities in the company’s history,” DuPont Chairman and CEO Chad Holliday and other DuPont leaders updated security analysts and investors on its DuPont Applied BioSciences™ business yesterday at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del. The business covers a range of bio-based products and technologies including BioFuels, BioMaterials, BioSpecialties and BioMedical.
Based on a strong and rapidly advancing pipeline, Chad said DuPont has accelerated efforts to commercialize its bio-based technologies to meet growing global demand.

“Solutions such as renewable energy, renewably sourced materials and other bio-based technologies are in high demand by the industries we serve,” Chad said. “Today, DuPont is in a strong leadership position with a robust pipeline of product candidates, many of which are the result of the focused application of our scientific capabilities beginning more than a decade ago. We have ambitious targets and our pace is accelerating to deliver these products to the marketplace.”
“Our pipeline of new bio-based products is creating potentially game-changing solutions to global societal challenges and significant growth opportunities for DuPont,” said Tom Connelly , DuPont executive vice president and Chief Innovation Officer. “Today, we are only scratching the surface of the potential broad market applicability these new products may have.”

BP BioFuels program manager Frank Gerry describes to analysts and investors the fuel properties of biobutanol. The exhibit on the right shows biobutanol performing like gasoline in the presence of water while ethanol phase separates in the presence of water, an important characteristic in transporting biobutanol through existing fuels infrastructure.

Products highlighted at the investor event included: Bio-PDO™, Sorona® and Cerenol™ for a wide range of markets; biobutanol, an advanced biofuel; BioSurfaces and Omega-3, based on proprietary DuPont fermentation technology; and ActaMax™, a surgical sealant for medical applications.
