At Home, Conserving Energy Begins with Construction

DuPont teams are developing science-based building innovations to improve energy efficiency in homes around the world. These sustainable construction materials reduce dependence of fossil fuels and lower emissions of carbon dioxides. In addition, they improve the environmental performance of buildings.
Reducing energy consumption to heat or cool buildings without decreasing comfort levels is possible.
DuPont scientists and engineers have developed systems and materials that can accomplish both, including:
- Weatherization systems.
- Passive thermal storage material.
- Photovoltaic alternatives.
- Environmentally sensitive refrigerants.
Since introducing DuPont™ Tyvek® weatherization systems 30 years ago, the company has continued to roll out new materials that improve energy efficiency, indoor air quality and overall comfort. Among new products are Tyvek® AtticWrap™ and Tyvek® ThermaWrap™. They all help manage heat flow and protect roof and wall systems from air and water infiltration.
In Europe, DuPont™ Energain® passive thermal storage panels absorb heat at 22°C (72°F), slowing the temperature increase in a room. When the temperature falls to 18°C (64°F), the panel begins to release heat. The result can save up to 35% on air-conditioning costs. Lowering heating and cooling needs also reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
The expected market for converting sunlight into electricity is growing by 50% per year. DuPont is a leading supplier to the photovoltaic industry. Materials include films, resins, encapsulation sheets, flexible substrates, conductive pastes, and high performance seals.
