DuPont™ Kevlar®
ballistic protection vests save many lives. The
International Association of Chiefs of Police/
DuPont™ Kevlar® Survivors Club® has recently inducted several additional members. Every member of this club credits Kevlar® with saving his or her life, and documented cases show that personal
body armor has saved the lives of more than 3,000 law enforcement officers.
Recent Survivors Club® members include:
- Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Brian Eadie (Canada)
- Ontario Provincial Constable (P/C) Jeremy Falle (Canada)
- Investigator Kyle Russel of the Alexandria, Va., Police Department (U.S.)
Sgt. Eadie and P/C Falle were trapped by a flashover and explosion. Although the officers suffered second and third degree burns, both have returned to duty.
“Our body armor definitely saved our lives that day. It bought us about five seconds to get out,” said P/C Falle. “My body armor and gloves protected me as I smashed through the window and escaped the flames.”
“The vest protected my torso from burns,” Sgt. Eadie added. ”I never thought a police officer faced fire injuries. Now my daughter constantly reminds me to wear my body armor, and I hope that all police officers respond to this message.”
When Investigator Russel was shot by a driver in a traffic stop, the .45 caliber bullet struck Russel’s torso, causing a wound. He has since returned to full duty.
“I credit my survival to the protection provided by my personal body armor,” Russel said. “I hope my experience will persuade others to wear their body armor at all times.”
