Farmers Worldwide Benefit from DuPont Science
 |
| Sorghum is one of the five top cereal crops in the world, along with wheat, oats, corn, and barley. The plants are cultivated in warmer climates worldwide, but the largest producer of sorghum today is Africa. |
Aligned with the company commitment to increase global food production, DuPont is working with farmers around the world making sure they have access to science and technology as well as knowledge to increase yields and protect the environment.
At the Global Harvest Initiative symposium, DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman said, “Sustainably increasing the volume of food produced is key to feeding the world in 2050. But we also need to look for solutions that increase the nutrition and quality of our food.”
Here are a few ways the company is helping farmers in developing countries:
- In Ethiopia, DuPont employees help growers teach other growers how to increase yields.
- In India, DuPont supports Access Development Services in an initiative called Uday that makes farm inputs and agronomic advice available to thousands of people. Uday has six agribusiness resource centers and more than 200 demonstration sites that share best practices and products.
In the Africa Biofortified Sorghum Consortium, DuPont and partners work together to develop high-yielding sorghum varieties that contain higher levels of nutrients.
