John Dillon Nominated for Election to DuPont Board of Directors

WILMINGTON, Del. ,  March 19, 2004  —  DuPont today announced that John Dillon, retired chairman and chief executive officer of International Paper, a global paper, packaging and forest products company, will be a nominee for election to its board of directors during the company's annual meeting with shareholders on April 28.

Dillon, 65, served as chairman and chief executive officer of International Paper from April 1, 1996, to his retirement on October 31, 2003. He was appointed president and chief operating officer in 1995.

Dillon held a number of leadership positions with International Paper throughout his career, including serving as the company's executive vice president for the industrial and consumer packaging businesses. He also had responsibility for corporate engineering, technology and Asia operations.

"John's experience and leadership will strengthen the DuPont board as we continue to take actions to transform DuPont into a sustainable growth company. Dillon is on the board of directors of Caterpillar, Inc. and Kellogg Company and is a member of the U. S. Business Council. He served as chairman of the Business Roundtable; chairman of the board of governors of the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement; chairman of the board of the American Forest and Paper Association; and chairman of the board of directors of the National Council on Economic Education. He is also a former member of the President's Advisory Council on Trade Policy and Negotiations.
