  3. Will ultraviolet rays damage the material quality?

    Yes, ultraviolet rays can damage most chemical suit materials; however, in order for damage to occur the material would have to be exposed to direct ultraviolet rays for weeks at a time.   Go to top



  4. Can Tychem® SP garments be used after the first wear?

    Yes, DuPont™ Tychem® SP suits are designed to be worn several times; however, the exact number of times any suit may be worn cannot be given because this will depend on the application and chemicals for the particular job. It is the responsibility of the user to decide whether the suit can be decontaminated and remain in good enough physical condition to be worn again.  Go to top



  5. Can Tychem® SP suits be repaired?

    No, Tychem® SP garments are economically priced and it is more cost effective to replace them than repair them.  Go to top



  6. How should Tychem® SP garments be disposed of? May they be incinerated?

    The recommended method of disposal is burial in a landfill in accordance with applicable local, state, national, EC and/or federal regulations. If a suit contaminated, additional requirements may apply. Incineration is not recommended due to the release of chloride based compounds. The suit should be mutilated before disposal to prevent use by an unauthorized person.  Go to top



  7. Are Tychem® SP garments self-extinguishing?

    Yes, Tychem® SP will not support its own combustion. Although it will burn when a flame is applied, Tychem® SP suits will soon self-extinguish once the flame is removed.  Go to top



  8. How much chemical protection will Tychem® SP provide?

  9. What is the shelf life of Tychem® SP?

    It is suggested that garments be labeled and retired to "Training Use Only" after 5 years after receipt by the purchaser.  Go to top



  10. How should Tychem® SP garments be stored?

    DuPont™ Tychem® SP garments should be stored in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. Either folding or hanging is appropriate.  Go to top



  11. Are Tychem® SP garments available in other colors?

    No other colors are available at this time.   Go to top



  12. How long may Tychem® SP garments be used before discarding?

    This depends on the application, the number of uses, and the type and frequency of decontamination.  Go to top



  13. Is an MSDS available for Tychem® SP material?

    Tychem® SP garments are considered "articles" as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 29, Chapter XVII, Part 1910, Subpart 2, Paragraph (b) (5). The Hazard Communication Program does not apply to "(iv) Articles: A manufactured item which: (i) is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture; (ii) has end use functions dependent in whole or part upon its shape and design during end use; and (iii) does not release, or otherwise result in exposure to, a hazardous chemical under normal conditions of use."   14. How do Tychem® SP garments compare to the competition?

    DuPont™ Tychem® SP has been recently re-designed to offer better protection and comfort. The shoulders of the garment have been modified to offer a greater range of movement. The sleeves have also been lengthened to provide better protection of forearms.
