Volunteer Recognition

DuPont employees have a long history of involvement in the communities in which they live and work. Volunteers participate in educational activities (as parents and mentors), health and human service agencies, as well as in arts and environmental groups. Our plant communities have long recognized the impact that DuPont volunteers make with their service commitment. It is appropriate and timely that such commitment to our communities is recognized as part of DuPont's core values of caring for society in general and for our communities specifically. DuPont Volunteer Recognition recognizes employees who are contributors not only at work but in the community as volunteers.

WorkLife Awards

Each year, DuPont sponsors the Wilmington Area WorkLife Awards to honor managers, teams, and individuals who demonstrate the value of work life balance through the use of corporate policies, programs, and practices.  Examples include managers encouraging employees to use flexible work practices while caring for ill family members, work teams sharing a co-worker’s duties so they could stay at home with a child, and a manager tutoring an employee while they work on their Master’s degree.  A dedicated team of volunteers plans and administers the awards each year.

The objectives are to:

  • Increase, recognize and support employee involvement in community-oriented volunteer activities;
  • Increase business and employee awareness of the value of community service;
  • Impact locally identified community issues; and
  • Reinforce and enhance the role of social responsibility as a contributor to DuPont's business success, specifically employee commitment and community support.

Educational Aid
The DuPont Office of Education (OOE) works with educators, university faculty, the business community and local DuPont sites to prepare today's children for tomorrow's world. DuPont has been supplying educational aid since 1918. Today's programs extend from K-12 to more than 200 colleges and universities worldwide. Our goal is to ensure that the next generation of citizens has a working knowledge of the unique method of science and a reasoned understanding of science as a domain of human knowledge.

United Way Days of Caring
Another way that distinguishes our commitment to our communities is through employee involvement in United Way Days of Caring. Annually, thousands of DuPonters are given paid time off to perform volunteer services for local non-profit agencies in our communities.

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work
This program began as an an opportunity for DuPont employees to bring their children into the workplace in order to provide an educational experience and exposure to career choices. Over time this program has evolved to include an outreach component for students in our communities.
