This was an excellent opportunity for DuPont and its employees to show how much they care for the needy of Singapore. The Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box program being in its 13th year, launched on November 30 at Suntec City with President S.R. Nathan as guest of honor.
This program was run on behalf of the National Council of Social Service, to benefit needy individuals/families as well as some of the 80 welfare agencies in the country.
DuPont was a major sponsor, with a contribution of $25,000. For every $1 contributed by an employee or family member, DuPont matched $2, subject to a maximum of $25,000. Thus, a total fund of $34,000 was raised.
Apart from fund raising, DuPont employees also distributed goodie bags, each containing 30 different items of foodstuff to 76 families who stay in one room flats in Chin Swee and Jalan Kukup precincts.
Finally, a visit was made to the Geylang East Home for the Aged where DuPont employees rendered songs & interacted with the senior citizens, bringing them Christmas cheer.
