DuPont continues to contribute to science for more than 200 years

DuPont was founded in 1802 in United States of America  by a French emigrant named Eleuthére Irénée du Pont de Nemours who immigrated to America during French Revolution in order to set up a better life.  Educated by Lavoisier, a well-known chemist in France, young DuPont started his business by operating a factory that produced gunpowder in Wilmington, Delaware.
After this modest start, the company grew in time in 19th century. Acquisitions and growth period started in early 20th century.

Research & Development

At the beginning of 20th century, the first “Test Station” was founded in order to contribute to industrial development through scientific researches. The facility was not only the first scientific laboratory of DuPont, but also the host of many important inventions like Neoprene®, Nylon and Lycra®. Started to focus on researches since 1920s, DuPont now allocates around 1.4 billon Dollars in budget for Research & Development.
In 1930s, DuPont marked the first commercial achievements by developing Nylon which initiated the production of synthetic rubber/gum and Neoprene and the revolution of material. Teflon®, which had become very popular by use of non-stick kitchen material in early 1960s, was invented in 1938 by Roy Plunkett.

Continuing to grow with production facilities and management offices it established around the world, DuPont passed a significant transformation period, added biology into chemistry as one of the main science platforms, and introduced its new corporate identity; “The Miracles of Science®”.
