In February 2007, DuPont committed to no longer make, use or buy PFOA by 2015 or earlier, if possible. We are taking this action because studies have shown very low levels of this compound in the environment and in the blood of the general population. Questions about this, as well as customer interest in product alternatives, are leading DuPont to develop new products and processes that reduce our environmental footprint and are more environmentally sustainable.
In a relatively short period of time, DuPont has significantly reduced PFOA emissions from existing processes and products, and through extensive research and development has now committed to completely phase out PFOA use. This complex undertaking is transforming the way certain widely used products will be made. We are focusing our efforts to find alternatives and to reformulate products that benefit consumers and play an important role in the economy.
We are excited about our progress to meet our commitment, and to develop and deliver new high-performance, environmentally sustainable products for our customers and where possible, we will convert our products and processes in advance of 2015.
