Packaging

DuPont packaging professionals work from the molecule forward, helping create materials that will process well and perform as required in modern packaging. From custom materials design labs, to processing machinery such as extruders, coaters and laminators. From end-use packaging equipment that can form and fill finished structures, to barrier and special environmental chambers that help test those structures. DuPont experts have access to whatever it takes to help deliver science-based packaging solutions to customers worldwide.

Scientific knowledge gained and shared with customers is often proprietary. However, we are able to share general knowledge and tips on materials and packaging design and testing strategies here.

Sterile Seal Testing

Some medical device manufacturers (MDMs) struggle with the potential of “false-positive” results when performing sterile integrity testing (bubble leak or dye penetration tests) on flexible sterile barrier systems (SBS) containing porous materials. A false-positive result can occur when a flexible pouch containing a porous material is bent, folded or creased, causing internal sheet separation of the porous web.

The Influence Of Sealant Modulus On The Bending Stiffness Of Multilayer Films

In many packaging applications where a rigid barrier or protective material (e.g., foil, EVOH, nylon, HDPE, or OPET) is combined with a softer sealant material, the location and modulus of the sealant can have a disproportionate influence on the bending stiffness of the structure.
