DuPont Announces the Next Edition of the Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards, the Regional and the Global Competitions Recognizing Packaging Innovation and Excellence in Package Printing.
DuPont Packaging Graphics today launched the 2010 International Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards with a call for entries for the Regional Grand Prix Cyrel® competitions to be held in 2009 in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
Initiated by DuPont in 1982, the Grand Prix Cyrel® competition is recognized as a prestigious event throughout the flexo and package printing industries. It is a means of recognizing those companies from around the world that design and produce outstanding packaging that “flies off of the retailer’s shelves.”
“Consumers are influenced more and more by packaging graphics and they increasingly use package shape, colors and graphics to identify a brand,” said Pier Luigi Sassanelli, marketing manager -- DuPont Packaging Graphics, Europe MEA. “Consumers often build their opinions about a certain product by judging their packaging. In response, consumer goods companies will need to use more graphics and colors to impress the audience. Therefore, printers and converters need to meet higher quality standards to develop packages that invoke an emotional impact in the consumer and strengthen the connection to the brand. Each exceptionally printed package, whether it has large or small consequences, is another step in industry’s attempt to harness, adapt and utilize science and technology to respond to the increasing demands of innovation from brand owners and retailers.”
In line with the Grand Prix Cyrel® goal of sharing the most inspiring printed packages obtained by using state-of-the-art DuPont™ Cyrel® technologies and science, the submitted jobs are evaluated by an independent jury with the objective to identify future-oriented solutions developed in proactive, innovative and entrepreneurial ways.
The Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards ceremonies bring brand owner executives together with flexographers to shed new light on how flexo printing technologies can be used to print high-quality graphics on packages while showcasing product features or consumer benefits. The winning entries, on display in the galleries during the awards ceremonies, also engage entrepreneurial participants in dialogues on important issues such as the economic advantages and sustainability of flexography.
“Grand Prix Cyrel® participants are innovators. These are companies that are developing and applying the most innovative and transformational DuPont™ Cyrel® technologies. Their cutting-edge work represents an enormous resource of entrepreneurial talent. That dynamic group is at the forefront of innovation and change in the sectors of packaging printing,” Sassanelli concluded.
Regional competitions will take place in 2009 and the independent juries will select up to 30 jobs/companies as regional award winners and nominees for the 2010 International Grand Prix Cyrel® Awards. The selection process will be carried out by a group of independent experts in specific fields related to packaging. The jury members will be selected on the basis of their extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the various packaging sectors. Jury members will have access to the submitted jobs and related information, and will have to evaluate adherence to the selection criteria and quality of the submitted samples.
The award ceremonies will take place in the respective regions between May and September 2009, and winners will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, as well as award certificates. Technology and scientific seminars will be held in concert with the awards events by which attendees will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss specialty innovation with industry experts.
Application forms and related information are being distributed at Drupa 2008 or can be downloaded from the official Grand Prix Cyrel® website. Submissions will be accepted from June 3, 2008, through March 29, 2009, and DuPont welcomes the participation of all local and international businesses.
