Shanghai Maxim Invests in Cyrel® FAST for Flexographic Platemaking

DuPont Packaging Graphics has installed a Cyrel® FAST Plate making system at Shanghai Maxim Garment Accessories Co. Ltd.   The system consists of a Cyrel® FAST TD 1000 processor and a 1000 ECLF finishing unit.

Established in Taiwan in 1973, the Maxim Group produces hang tags, woven labels, price tickets, bar code stickers, and other types of labels for the apparel and retail industries.    The company has grown through a reputation for quality products and quick, reliable service and today employs more than 1,100 people at facilities in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Viet Nam and China (Shanghai, Shenzen, Qindao).

A key component of quality tags and labels is high quality printing.  In 2007, Shanghai Maxim was operating a water washable flexographic in-house platemaking facility, as well as sourcing plates from a local digital trade shop that had recently installed a DuPont™ Cyrel® FAST thermal platemaking system.

Faced with growing demand, and located in the Shanghai business district, facility management set a goal of expanding their platemaking capacity while eliminating solvents from their process.  After researching their alternatives, they chose DuPont™ Cyrel® FAST.

DuPont™ Cyrel® FAST is a revolutionary technology that uses dry thermal technology for plate imaging, completely eliminating the need for conventional solvents and aqueous washout solutions in the platemaking process. In addition to the obvious environmental benefits, Cyrel® FAST offers enhanced pressroom productivity by reducing plate ready time to less than one hour; a reduction of up to 75 percent.

The environmental benefits of flexography and Cyrel® FAST are documented by the recent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by a third party and sponsored by DuPont Packaging Graphics.  The LCA shows reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and non-renewable energy consumption for flexography and Cyrel® FAST compared to gravure and solvent processing.
