DuPont Packaging Graphics Hosts Key Flexographic Printing Industry Event in China
Announces Third Annual Asia Pacific Cyrel® Grand Prix Award Winners and new Flexo4all Strategic Alliance
The winners of the third annual Asia Pacific Cyrel® Grand Prix awards were recently announced during a ceremony hosted by DuPont Packaging Graphics in the grand ballroom of the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai, China. The prized Cyrel® Grand Prix trophy, symbolizing excellence in the flexographic industry, was presented to 85 award winners in 11 different categories. DuPont Packaging Graphics also introduced a new strategic alliance called Flexo4all, designed to significantly accelerate the growth of flexography in the region through key collaborations.
A total of 422 entries from more than 120 companies in 10 countries throughout Asia Pacific participated in the award competition. Award categories included best conversions from offset, Gravure & letterpress to Flexo, and best innovation, to showcase the new techniques and technologies that are increasing the capabilities of flexography as a print process. The award winners were chosen by an independent jury comprised of print buyers, printing industry experts and noted print media professionals.
"We were pleased to have such a distinguished independent judging panel for the awards – their expertise and credibility is critical to the continued success of this event," said Vijay Ramachandran, manager-Marketing & Strategy, DuPont Packaging Graphics, Asia Pacific.
Over 200 attendees including DuPont customers, industry associates, academia, print buyers and media participated in the awards event that was spread over two days.
"It is inspiring to unite with our colleagues in the industry to recognize excellence with the Cyrel® Grand Prix awards – it is through sharing ideas on innovative advances and best practices that the industry continues to grow,” said John M. McCooey, global marketing manager, DuPont Packaging Graphics. “DuPont is deeply committed to help accelerate the growth of flexography, which is why we also took this opportunity to announce the new Flexo4all strategic alliance - strengthening our tradition of collaboration within the region."
Jagdish Kumar, regional director, DuPont Packaging Graphics, Asia Pacific called on the industry to unite to advance the practice of flexography in the region through a new strategic alliance called Flexo4all. Six founding members including DuPont, Esko Artworks, Siegwerk, Comexi, Windmoeller & Hoelscher and Tesa signed a memorandum of understanding to form the Flexo4all collaborative team in Asia-Pacific. The alliance plans to encourage networking within the flexo industry to create active co-operation among all partners, promote the value of flexography as the best technology to satisfy all printing needs, connect the competency of each member so as to complement each other in delivering knowledge and value-in-use solutions to our customers, and to promote greater sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Technologies like the award winning Cyrel® FAST system and the Cyrel® FAST Round system have enhanced the capabilities of flexographic printers across the world, enabling greater design flexibility, speed, and higher print quality. Cyrel® FAST reduces plate making time by over 70% and eliminates usage of organic or inorganic solvents. These systems also help reduce emissions and energy consumption.
The Cyrel® Grand Prix award competition, established in Europe in 1983, was originally launched to bring recognition to the leading flexo printers, and convey the quality and benefits of processed photopolymer plates to traditional rubber plate customers. Today the Cyrel® Grand Prix has grown into a global event with the addition of the Asian regional awards.
