A strong track record of innovation spurs new offerings from two of the leaders in Flexo prepress
Two of the leaders in the Flexographic and Packaging markets, DuPont and EskoArtwork have joined forces to support the whole packaging value chain in their journey toward achieving their sustainability goals for packaging design and production. At Drupa 2008 the companies will present solutions and industry best practices that contribute to the short and long-term sustainability objectives of the packaging community.
“Achieving sustainable packaging is a journey that will no doubt require a steady parade of incremental process and product improvements from all of the participants in the packaging value chain,” said John McCooey, global marketing manager, DuPont Packaging Graphics. “The integrated solutions from DuPont and EskoArtwork are designed to meet the Sustainability goals of the entire packaging community --- tradeshops and convertors as well as brand owners and print buyers.”
In addition to the new, integrated workflow solutions, DuPont Packaging Graphics will unveil data regarding the environmental sustainability of flexography. Based on research conducted over more than a year, the company will publish information illustrating the potential energy savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions possible with flexography. The results of the study, done in conjunction with sustainability experts, tradeshops and package printers in North America and Europe, will provide some answers for brand owners and print buyers who are interested in understanding ways to reduce upstream environmental impacts.
“Better creative design methods, careful material selection, and the use of applications may help consumer packaging companies reduce material and energy use, and achieve waste reduction or elimination goals.” said Arjen Maarleveld, Senior Vice President Products and Solutions at EskoArtwork. “Following best practices in packaging design and production, companies can minimise waste, reduce shipping costs and increase efficiencies --- all important considerations when it comes to sustainable packaging.”
DuPont and EskoArtwork solutions for sustainable packaging design and production
DuPont and EskoArtwork solutions can help customers reduce their environmental footprint in each of the discrete cradle-to-cradle lifecycle phases.
In packaging design EskoArtwork ArtiosCAD, Studio and Studio Toolkits provide tools to ensure that packaging is structurally and graphically designed with economic use of materials. ArtiosCAD software - and its links with palletisation software- can be used to reduce packaging to an optimal size, helping to reduce content weight and making the logistics process from factory to retailer more efficient.
EskoArtwork Visualizer's on-screen mock-ups of packaging designs reduce the number of physical prototypes required in the design process which in turn eliminates the use of equipment, materials and associated resources. Moreover, hyper-realistic on-screen previewing of the packaging design allows users to optimise the use of substrates, inks and special finishes and coatings.
EskoArtwork screening technologies such as Groovy Screens for flexo printing, contribute to more eco-friendly packaging by reaching the same color saturation with reduced ink consumption.
DuPont™ Cyrel® photopolymer digital plates and sleeves coupled with EskoArtwork Cyrel® Digital Imager provide advantages vs. conventional analogue film based platemaking. The elimination of film and all film-imaging steps not only reduces material costs, increases productivity and image quality, it lowers the overall footprint.
DuPont™ Cyrel® FAST - a platemaking system that uses thermal technology – eliminates the use of solvents, and consequently removes the need for solvent recycling and handling, lengthy record-keeping and stringent cleaning of accidental spills, not to mention the often unpleasant odour associated with many solvents.
Committed to supporting the innovation of sustainable package printing solutions, DuPont Packaging Graphics and EskoArtwork will continue to work with customers and the industry to develop environmentally smart technologies that provide real quality and productivity advantages for tradeshops, converters and brand owners.
