In the national ruling of the current Grand Prix Cyrel®, Cyrel® round printing forms cut a very successful figure. This development – also termed in-the-round technology (ITR) – is spreading increasingly in the market of high-grade flexo printing. In the presentation of prizes on the national level, for which DuPont, as organiser of the competition, had received 370 submissions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, users of this still young technology were able to collect quite a lot of awards. A total of six awards – four of them in gold – went to printing examples that had been produced with Cyrel® round printing forms. Duo Carl Kind Jr. as repro studio and MM Graphia Innova Print as printing shop alone collected two gold and one bronze medallions. The constellations of Duni and the repro studio Flex-Punkt as well as Wego-Flexodruck GmbH and Warburger Klischeeanstalt likewise won gold, silver being awarded to the company Nordenia from Halle. The printing forms for these submissions came from Laserflex.
On closer consideration of the results, it also became clear that ITR technology was able to gain points particularly in those categories where innovative ideas in the field of packaging were awarded, for example, for successful transformation from offset and gravure motifs to flexo printing. These successes underscore the potential users can gain with regard to quality with the Cyrel® round system. Over and above this, however, this technology developed by DuPont jointly with Rotec Hülsensysteme GmbH & Co. KG also offers economic benefits. Practical experience obtained hitherto with the application of Cyrel® round sleeves indicates that ITR technology pays for itself both for repro as well as printing operations in the majority of cases.
