In December 2006, the European Union adopted a new regulatory framework concerning the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of CHemicals (REACH).
This regulatory framework entered into force on June 1, 2007.
One of the main objectives of REACH is the protection of human health and the environment. REACH requires manufacturers and importers to gather information on the properties of their chemical substances that meet specific volume, health and/or environmental criteria, and register the information in a central database to be maintained by the new European Chemical Agency in Helsinki, Finland.
The regulation also calls for the progressive substitution of chemicals subject to Authorization when suitable alternatives have been identified. DuPont is actively engaged in preparation for compliance with the requirements of REACH.
