Meet the Judges of the 2014 DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation

David Luttenberger, CPP - Lead Juror/Facilitator
David Luttenberger is the President of David Luttenberger Consulting, LLC. In his role, he puts the business, innovations, and solutions of packaging in context with values-based consumer behaviors.
His “consumer-to-concept” (vs. the traditional concept-to-consumer methodology) perspectives and insights on consumer trends, packaging innovations, sustainable packaging, mobile marketing for packaging, and the general business of packaging across multiple formats and end-use categories have been featured in keynote presentations at the 2008 Associacao Brasileira de Emballagem (ABRE) International Packaging Congress in Sao Paulo, Brazil; the 2007 Summit Meeting of the Packaging Industry; and the 2004 AsiaPak Congress in Tokyo, 2013 Packaging Innovations Conference, 2013 Foodservice Packaging Institute and multiple PackExpo Conferences. He also presented at the 2012 DuPont Global Collabatory event.
As departmental head, he holds responsibility for designing novel packaging for brand building, with focus for Patient Safety, Convenience & Compliance packaging and Sustainability that includes cost improvement. The packaging so designed is used in clinical trials/test batches for its regulatory acceptance and is involved in implementation of right packaging for various molecules being launched by his organization.
Jose Pedro Cruz
Jose graduated in 1984 from Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos/UFSCar, as a materials engineer focused on Polimers. He previously held positions as R&D Manager and Industrial Manager for Dixie Toga and worked for Cromex Resins in Intap.
Joseph H. Hotchkiss is Professor and Director of the School
Prior to his appointment at MSU, he was Professor and Chair of the Food Science Department in the Institute of Food Science at Cornell University, where he also taught and directed an active research program in food packaging, safety and quality. His current research involves the

Mead Westvaco (MWV), USA
Hung Le is vice president of Global Design for MWV. An engineer by training with 15 years of experience in the packaging industry, Hung leverages a deep understanding of the development and commercialization of consumer packaging to lead the creation of package design concepts that are connected to business, brands and consumers. MWV Design collaborates with the company’s R&D, brand engagement, market & consumer insights and manufacturing teams, to design and manufacture innovative packaging solutions for some of the world’s most admired brands.
Vice President, Global Packaging and Engineering Technologies, PepsiCo, USA
Denise has been with PepsiCo for 7 years and is currently the Vice President, Global Packaging & Engineering Technology. She is responsible for developing and executing the strategies and programs that will transform PepsiCo’s beverage packaging globally.
Denise graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Packaging Science. Since that time, she has worked across various Consumer Package Goods Companies – such as, Colgate-Palmolive, Ralston Purina, and Cadbury Schweppes. Denise has held various roles in her career in Manufacturing, Marketing, Quality, Product Development Process and Equipment Engineering.
Through Denise’s career, she has received in excess 10 AmeriStar package design awards, along with multiple industry recognitions for improved design and reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
A Chemical Engineer graduate, Philippe started his career as a Food Scientist in the Nestlé Research Centre located in Lausanne (Switzerland). After 10 years, he moved within the same company to the very exciting area of packaging. During the next 20 years, Philippe has occupied a number of positions from operational responsibilities through to Innovation Packaging Manager. In 2007, Philippe spent a year in the Nestlé USA headquarters leading the implementation of the new Nestlé Packaging Safety Strategy.
In 2008 he moved back to the corporate packaging department in the Nestlé worldwide headquarter based in Switzerland as Head of Packaging Material and Training. In this function, Philippe has to follow up on packaging innovations in all packaging categories in order to evaluate and identify any interest for potential application within the complex Nestlé product portfolio. Relating to packaging & sustainability, he is involved in the elaboration of the Nestlé Strategy and has to ensure its implementation.
Wilmer Saavedra is the Technical Manager of Empaques Flexa SAS –Colombia a company of the Alusa Group, dedicated to the manufacturing of flexible packaging. Wilmer joined to Empaques Flexa SAS in 1987 as Customer Service Engineer and has held numerous strategic rolls during this time as: Marketing Manager, Customer Service Manager and Production Manager.
Group Procurement Director
Gary Stanley has over 20 years of continuous experience within the plastic packaging industry, working in senior supply chain and procurement roles. His career in packaging started with LINPAC Plastics and joined Britton Group in 1999 as Director of Strategic Sourcing.
Britton Group has changed significantly in recent years, with Sun Capital Partners acquiring Britton in April 2011, building a much larger European based flexible packaging company where Gary holds the position of Group Procurement Director for the Coveris European Flexible division.
Gary has an MBA in Supply Chain Management from Birmingham University, a member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply.

A firm believer in "People Build Business," Anthony has over 25 years of work experience with various globally acclaimed manufacturing firms and has worked in Australia, Hong Kong and China (including over 15 years in senior management roles in Consumer and Industrial packaging industry). Over his career, he has registered a solid track record of successes in packaging industry, servicing the Consumer Products, Beverage, Industrial packaging as well as paper manufacturing with innovative breakthrough and enhancements.
