In light of the skyrocketing growth of the electronics industry in China, DuPont Circuit & Packaging Materials (CPM) opened its new lab in Shanghai, China. Located in the DuPont China R&D Center, the new lab features advanced facilities including equipment designed for testing and evaluating materials and products for use in rigid and flexible printed circuit board (PCB) and wafer level packaging (WLP) applications. This multi-functional lab will enable faster and more efficient technical support for CPM customers in the electronics industry in China, and provide a facility for new product development and process evaluation.
“DuPont is bullish about the Greater China market’s strong demand for electronic products,” said Peter A. Irvine, global business director -- DuPont Circuit & Packaging Materials. “The maturity of 3G technologies, smart phones, the penetration of low-cost and lightweight notebook computers, and the government’s Home Appliances to Rural Area Subsidy policy have all fueled prosperity in China’s electronics industry. In response to the market growth in Asia, we chose Shanghai to establish this technical lab, where we look forward to better meeting the market demand, localizing technical services, and providing real-time technical response to our customers.”
DuPont Circuit & Packaging Materials, a global leader in material innovation for the PCB industry, has seen strong growth in the Greater China market for high-end PCBs. DuPont also has forged long-term collaborations with major PCB manufacturers in Asia. In order to provide more efficient and high-quality customer services, DuPont CPM has invested in a range of equipment for its Shanghai lab, which will enable it to replicate customer processes and offer state of the art analytical and testing services.
The DuPont China R&D Center is located in Zhangjiang High-tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai, one of China’s national level technical parks dedicated to high-tech start-ups and research organizations. Initially, the facility housed 100 people when it opened in 2005, with a planned expansion of up to 400 scientists and technicians. DuPont opened a large Photovoltaic Technical Center there in May 2009, and has continued to expand the R&D Center with this most recent addition of the CPM laboratory. The facility was designed to provide support for research, application development, training, technology transfer and licensing of DuPont technologies for China, Asia Pacific and global markets. The center also will provide an enhanced platform to enable technological exchanges and research collaborations between DuPont and leading Chinese and Asian universities and research institutes.
To initiate the new lab, DuPont CPM organized a technical seminar for key customers. Topics included the PCB market and technology development trends, dry film technology image transfer, new drilling auxiliary materials, new polyimide products, and more.
DuPont CPM also is exhibiting at the 19th annual CPCA show in Shanghai. New DuPont products, technologies and applications for the PCB industry will be featured, including new DuPont CB Series screen printed ink materials, a new DuPont™ Kapton® polyimide product and more. The exhibition runs from March 16 -18, 2010. Visit DuPont at booth at E1-1F42 or on our website, http://electronics.dupont.com to learn more.
