ASTM F1052 - PRESSURE TEST FOR LEVEL A SUITS | | | | ASTM F1154 - Wear Test "Practices for Qualitatively Evaluating the Comfort, Fit, Function, and Integrity of Chemical Protective Suit Ensembles" Explanation of Test Methods: A test subject performs a variety of motion exercises while wearing the suit. A series of nine questions are asked regarding the function of the suit. An alternate protocol involves actual operations such as crawling, climbing a ladder, moving a 55-gallon drum and opening a pipe valve. This test is required now in NFPA 1991, '94 edition as documentation of performance. 'Wear' Test Defined: This test measures the performance of the suit and fabric during a simulated wear. It is a good indication of how the suit will perform under actual use conditions. | | | ASTM F1052 - PRESSURE TEST METHOD "Standard Practice for Pressure Testing Totally-Encapsulating Chemical Protective Suits" Explanation of Test Method: Establishes the gas-tight integrity of totally encapsulated Level A chemical suits. Performed on each suit produced during manufacture and periodically thereafter. A suit is inflated with air to a specified pressure and the pressure drop is measured over time. A minimum allowable pressure constitutes pass/fail during the test. For detailed pressure testing instructions, see page 9 of the Manual for Tychem® Vapor and Liquid Splash Protective Garments. Pressure Test Defined: This test measures whether or not a totally encapsulating suit is gas tight. All Level A suits must pass this test before leaving factory. A pressure test kit is also available to users for pressure testing suits on arrival and prior to any reuse. See Instructions Section for more complete description of the test method.
