 Meeting The Standards
The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and its international counterparts work to establish a consistent set of performance criteria and test methods for materials, components, composites and complete turnout ensembles.
The standards are constantly being updated as the result of studies and public proposals to revise tests and update performancestandards to improve protection, functionality and other areas of concern. For example, the 2000 edition of the NFPA 1971 Standard now includes a total heat loss specification to reduce heat stress and a newly developed compressive conductive heat resistance test to measure the thermal insulation of composites under load. | | | | |
