GUIDELINES FOR APPAREL MADE OF Tyvek® PROPRIETARY NONWOVEN FOR USE IN FOOD PROCESSING

Apparel constructed of Tyvek® spunbonded olefin, treated or not treated with antistat, may be worn by food processors without prior approval of the USDA or FDA provided the garment is not used in direct prolonged contact with food products.

Items that are intended for direct prolonged contact with foods such as gloves and direct contact food packaging materials must comply with the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDDCA).

Apparel constructed of Tyvek® used in food processing must be clean and in good repair to be satisfactory to the federal inspector of the establishment.

WARNINGS:

(1) Garments of Tyvek® proprietary nonwoven are not flame resistant and should not be used around heat, flame, sparks, or in potentially flammable or explosive environments.

(2) Garments of Tyvek® should have slip resistant or antislip materials on the outer surface of boots, shoecovers, or other garment surfaces where slippage may occur.
