Delaware Congressman Visits DuPont to Discuss Alternative Energy

Cindy Green, vice president and general manager of DuPont Fluoroproducts, hosted Delaware Congressman Mike Castle on Wednesday for a tour of DuPont’s alternative energy facilities at Chestnut Run Plaza in Wilmington, Del. Castle was on-site to discuss DuPont’s alternative energy programs, specifically fuel cells and photovoltaic solar panels.

Following a tour of DuPont's fuel cell labs and solar energy program, Rep. Castle held a press conference and viewed the photovoltaic solar panels, which are powering 10 percent of the energy for building 702 at the site. DuPont makes eight out of the nine essential materials used in solar panels.

“I’ve always felt that DuPont has the best researchers and scientists in the world,” Rep. Castle said. “I believe in DuPont’s advanced alternative energy solutions and feel they need federal grants and funding. We must not only concentrate on increasing America’s energy supply, but we also must focus on improving vehicle fuel efficiency and renewable energy research.”

“Since we installed the solar panels in March this year, we've been able to avoid emitting almost 70,000 pounds of carbon dioxide greenhouse gases,” Cindy said. “These DuPont solar panels are supplying enough electricity to power about eight average homes in Delaware.”

In addition to DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions and Fuel Cells, DuPont’s recently announced bio-fuels initiative with BP to provide improved options for expanding energy supplies and accelerate the move to renewable transportation fuels, which lower overall greenhouse gas emissions.
