NEW DELHI, August 22, 2008 - DuPont India, the wholly owned subsidiary of US based US$ 29.4 billion E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, announces the introduction of its new market facing business initiative DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions (DPVS) in India. DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions will offer a variety of advanced materials from several DuPont businesses to enable the country’s photovoltaic (PV) industry to increase lifetime and efficiency of solar modules and improve the productivity of PV module makers.
DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions is a leading global supplier to the photovoltaic industry, offering a broad and growing portfolio of innovative solutions for both crystalline silicon and thin film modules designed to help deliver clean, sustainable energy to enhance people’s lives. The DPVS product portfolio includes films, resins, encapsulant sheets, flexible substrates, and conductive pastes for both crystalline silicon and thin film modules to the photovoltaic industry in India.
Through investments in materials, technology development and manufacturing, DuPont is accelerating its ability to improve the lifetime and efficiency of PV cells and modules. Commenting on the introduction, Marc Doyle, Global Business Director, DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions, said, “The most important factor for continued rapid market growth is to invest in solutions that meet the needs of this market. Following the global strategy of ‘go where the growth is’, India has been identified as having a high potential for market growth in solar energy and this segment will drive the company’s strategic growth in the country.”
To support the solar energy market in India, the company plans to establish a PV lab by 2010 at the DuPont Knowledge Center in Hyderabad. This lab will provide technical and research facility support to DuPont customers in the solar energy industry. DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions will also install a PV array at the DuPont Knowledge Center in order to generate a portion of the Center’s energy requirements from renewable solar energy.
Balvinder S Kalsi, President & CEO, DuPont India, said, ”Driven by India’s geographical location, government incentives to promote renewable energy, and increasing energy requirements in the country, India will emerge as a large manufacturing base for photovoltaic cell and module production and DuPont is delighted to be able to provide material solutions to the domestic manufacturers”.
DuPont currently expects the global growth in the PV market to exceed 50 percent in each of the next few years. The company has made significant investments in this market and intends to triple the size of its business over the next 5 years. To meet the needs of the fast-growing PV market, DuPont is expanding the production capacity of DuPont™ Solamet® thick film metallization pastes at its Electronic Materials DuPont Dongguan Ltd. (EMDD) facility and has announced it will set up a research center in Hong Kong and a manufacturing facility in Shenzhen to serve the thin film PV market.
The integrated range of DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions being promoted within India include: DuPont™ Elvax® EVA copolymer resins, DuPont™ Teflon® fluoropolymer film, DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride films, DuPont™ Kapton® polymide film, DuPont™ Butacite® PV and SentryGlas® PV sheets, DuPont™ Solamet® thick film metallization pastes, DuPont Teijin Films™ Mylar® and Tetoron® polyester films, DuPont™ Rynite® PET thermoplastic resins and DuPont™ Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts (More product information in attached Annexure). These advanced materials will be on display at the DuPont booth (no. 26 at Hall 12 & 12A) at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2008, New Delhi, on August 21-23, 2008.
