Key Photovoltaic Materials and Marine Coatings Help Demonstrate Transportation with Lower Environmental Impact can be Achieved
On 27 September, 2010, the largest solar boat ever built, PlanetSolar embarked from Monaco on the first ever world tour by a solar-powered boat to demonstrate that renewable energy and technology can be applied today to achieve carbon-neutral transportation.
DuPont is proud to be an official supplier of PlanetSolar. DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl fluoride (PVF)film, used as a component for the photovoltaic backsheets, will help protect the modules and ensure reliable power generation during the world tour and avoid any energy source failure. DuPont has also supplied high performance coatings for marine applications.
The stunning catamaran was on display at the Monaco Yacht Show, September 22-25, 2010. The PlanetSolar boat is 30-metres long and 15 metres wide covered by 470 square metres of photovoltaic modules that power a non-polluting motor.
