DuPont Engineering Polymers expands compounding capacity for its DuPont™ Zytel® polyamide resins in Asia Pacific

DuPont Engineering Polymers has completed an expansion of compounding capacity for its range of DuPont™ Zytel® nylon 6 and 66 resins at the manufacturing site of DuPont in Ulsan, Korea.

This expansion adds 20,000 tons per year of new capacity and is in response to rapid growth in demand for reinforced nylon resins in the region, especially from the automotive industry. Glass or mineral reinforced nylon resins are characterized by their excellent performance in strength, stiffness and high temperature resistance and meet demanding needs in automotive under-the-hood applications such as air intake manifolds, cylinder head covers, as well as many diverse applications in the electronics & electrical equipment markets.

“Continuing to invest in the regions with the highest market growth is a key strategy for our business,” said Dr. Richard Mayo, global business director for Zytel® nylon resins and DuPont™ Crastin® PBT resins, DuPont Engineering Polymers. “This new capacity in Korea will enable us to respond quickly to customers needs and ensure the supply of high quality products required to meet the rapidly increasing demand in the Asia Pacific region. We are committed to a program of investment to support the growth of our global customers and at the same time reinforce our position as the leading supplier of nylon Engineering Plastics,” Dr. Mayo continued.

"One of our corporate strategies is going where the growth is. We are pleased to have this capacity expansion in Korea to meet the increasing demand of two key growth industries in Korea, which are automotive and electronics. This new capacity will help us strengthen our partnership with our global and regional customers as they continue to grow their business in Korea and in the region,” Cheoroo Won, President of DuPont Korea added.

In recent years, DuPont Engineering Polymers has made several investments in the region. These included plans to build a new polymer plant to produce DuPont™ Zytel® HTN high performance polyamide and DuPont™ Vespel® parts and shapes in Singapore. Together with the investment in the DuPont Research and Development Center in Shanghai, China and DuPont Automotive Center in Nagoya, Japan, these illustrate the confidence and continuous commitment of DuPont Engineering Polymers to the Asia Pacific marketplace.

The DuPont Engineering Polymers business manufactures and sells Crastin® PBT and Rynite® PET thermoplastic polyester resins, Delrin® acetal resins, Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomers, Minlon® mineral reinforced nylon resins, Tynex® filaments, Vespel® parts, Zenite® LCP liquid crystal polymers and Zytel® nylon resins. These products serve global markets in the aerospace, appliance, automotive, consumer, electrical, electronic, industrial, sporting goods and many other diversified industries.
